We Have Lockup !

Our outdoor classroom garden kitchen is empty but ready to be made by hand and heart into a top class food and environmental education centre ! We are not a big school, we are not a rich school, but we are a community school and we look forward to furnishing the new building with the efforts of our staff, students and community. Thankyou to all who have contributed time and effort so far.

Thanks to Zoe from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Zoe came and visited us today. She is a project officer with the SAKG program and she came out to see progress underway and meet and chat with staff. Zoe met students and talked with our Kitchen Educator Brook. She also talked to Anne-Marie our Garden Educator and Mr D our HalindaGreen Project Educator. We love having visitors to HalindaGreen and there was a break in the rain for Zoes visit !

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Coming to this Space

 

Take a look at this space. This year we are going to get a kitchen in our garden. HalindaGreen will look different. We will also be learning more about pleasurable food. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Scheme has begun. Our kitchen garden will be expanding and the produce will be prepared in an outdoor kitchen. The builders and engineers are currently drawing up plans based on our needs and resources.

Term 2 Growing Passions

 
Just as summer winds down the business of getting stuck into the garden as a community heats up. The air is cooler, making for an even better time in the garden to 'dig in'. HalindaGreen has continued to grow. It's harvest is getting richer. We thought that maybe our passionfruit vine was empty rootstock. But the plant has fruited. It came as a lovely surprise.

Josh's Dad Helps Out

Wednesdays are open days for parents and community members who want to contribute to the garden at Halinda.

Josh's Dad came in this week to help out with the maintenance of the plants, garden beds and watering. Feel free to come in and spend a half hour, or even longer if you wish, on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 onwards.

We can even arrange other days and times for the really keen.

It is a lovely way to contribute to the life of the local community.

HalindaGreen Gets Cooking

Bianca, Project manager for the Melbourne based but now expanding Australia wide Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Project paid a visit to HalindaGreen today.

HalindaGreen is working on establishing our pavilion kitchen garden on the Green.
